About the Luddites, and an invitation to join the project

I have just started another project:

Luddites – Linux User Desktop (LUD) Users And Advocates: Making the Leap To Linux On Your Desktop/Laptop.

The project seeks to promote wider use of Linux User Desktops by providing posts by people who fall into one or more of the following groups:

  1. They only use Linux on their desktop/laptop. (Hereafter I’ll just say desktop.);
  2. They use a Linux desktop at least part of each day;
  3. The want to learn by example the experiences of those who use a Linux desktop on a regular basis;
  4. They don’t know what a Linux is;
  5. They don’t think anyone should be using a Linux desktop (many of these folks work for a large software company based in Redmond, Washington);
  6. They would like to make the “Leap To Linux” by trying to make Linux their sole desktop, but seek guidance and encouragement to help them do so.

I’m currently in the last group and would like to become a member of the first group as soon as possible. I started this project in part to get some help and guidance while I attempt to join the first group.

I would like this to become a group blog, and so invite any interested parties to participate.

If you are interested, then get a WordPress Account and then post a comment to the Sign Me Up post, giving your reasons for participating.

I especially welcome participation by folks in Group 5, but will exercise my editorial discretion to drop those who spend more time ranting than debating and reasoning.

The project will be governed by “open-source rules.” If you don’t know what they are, we’ll team them to you by example.

I wrote this post while running Windows XP, but I am in the process of becoming a Luddite, so please hold me to this commitment.
